Weeks 9-14 + FINAL

Image
Week 9-14 Weeks 9 to 14 were all about learning how to use Photoshop and transferring our interior ideas and real life sketches of our Textfuseum online with Photoshop's help. This time also doubled as consultation sessions with our lecturer where we would share our progress so far. FINAL COMPILATION Here are my final compilation slides from Environment Design!

Week 5-8

Week 5-8: Exterior Moodboard, Watercolour, Building Sketches For these few weeks, we mainly focused on designing the initial versions of our building exterior and also learning how to colour them using watercolour. This is my first exterior mood-board. As we see, I took a lot of inspiration from more organic shapes and had a more neutral colour theme at first with the building in a more cylinder shape. This were my drafts of the exterior sketches! The curved roof of the building was meant to emulate the way fabric drapes as a nod to making a textile museum. This was my final watercolour of the building!

Week 4

Week 4 In the fourth week, our assignment was to draw 12 boxes, each showcasing different elevation drawings of buildings. This task challenged me to come up with a variety of unique designs, which was tougher than I expected. To approach this, I relied on my understanding of design elements and principles to create more compelling designs. Once the elevation drawings were finished, we had to convert six of them into one-point perspective and the remaining six into two-point perspective.

Week 3

Week 3 In Week 3, we had an assignment to create one-point perspective drawings using basic shapes. Initially, I thought this would be challenging, but it turned out to be more doable than I imagined. The concept of using a single vanishing point made it easier to understand how lines converge to create depth. Working with simple shapes like squares and triangles helped me see how perspective can transform flat drawings into dynamic ones. I found that focusing on precision and alignment made the process straightforward and even enjoyable. Even when moving onto the more complex shapes, the basics I built really helped making it feel like a breeze. This exercise boosted my confidence in using perspective and inspired me to continue exploring its possibilities in my future designs.

Week 2

Week 2 Learning about drawing perspectives has been a game-changer for me as a designer. Before this, my sketches felt flat and lacked depth. Discovering how perspective works - especially how lines come together at a vanishing point - helped me create drawings that feel more realistic and three-dimensional. At first, getting the hang of perspective was challenging. It required me to think differently about how I see space and objects. But with practice, I realized how powerful this technique is for bringing ideas to life. It allowed me to show depth and distance, making my sketches much more effective in conveying my thoughts. Working on perspective has also taught me to be more patient and detail-oriented. Each line needs to be just right, which has helped me improve my overall drawing skills. As I continue practicing, I feel more confident in my ability to express ideas visually. Overall, learning about perspective has been a rewarding journey, giving me new tools to make my d...

Week 1

Week 1 In our first environment design class, we delved into the fundamentals of sketching and its critical role in our journey as budding designers. I am convinced that sketching is an indispensable tool for sparking creativity and honing design ideas, engaging our senses in the process. It facilitates quick visualization and provides flexibility through techniques such as texture, shadow, and materiality. Our lecturer illustrated these concepts with examples in his slides, showing how adding elements like texture, shadow, and materiality can enhance the appeal and communicative power of our drawings. During the session, we also explored various sketching techniques we will learn this semester, including drawing perspectives, creating objects from geometric shapes, human figures, landscapes, and sketching interior features. The first exercise our lecturer assigned was simple: draw lines freehand on a blank sheet of paper without using a ruler. At first, I was surprised by this task, b...
